If you are looking for assistance in constructing a good resume and cover letter to help in your job search, the good news is you have many options available to you!

First, if you are comfortable writing your own resume and/or cover letter, but would just like an organized, professional template to use, you should search the Internet. There is a great deal of online information available to you regarding resume and cover letter templates, writing style guides and more if you search using key words such as “resume template,” “cover letter template,” “resume writing style guide,” or the like. Many websites will allow you to peruse the different templates available and then download the one that is right for you. Often, a specific template will be customized for the job category you are interested in. This is a great option for those that can organize their job experience and skill sets well, but just need to follow a recommended pattern.

A second option for assistance in resume and cover letter writing is to recruit a resume services company and pay for a professionally written resume. There are 2 main national professional resume writing associations in the US, the Professional Association of Resume Writers and Career Coaches (PARWCC) and the National Resume Writers (NRW). By visiting the websites of these two associations, you can search for a resume writing service in your local area to contact. Or, you could just key in an online search of “professional resume,” “professional resume writing,” or more to prompt various companies that can help. With email and the Internet, these services don’t necessarily need to be in close proximity to you.

A third option available to you is to research the many books on resume writing which exist. By visiting your local library or bookstore, you’re sure to find a wealth of information on resume writing, great cover letters, writing style guides and more.

One last option to help in your search for assistance in resume and cover letter writing is to research the options available in your community. If you are affiliated with a higher education institution, many of these schools have career placement departments that can help you to write your resume. Or you can visit any career services, employment agency or temporary employment agency to not only help you with your resume and cover letter, but to also help aid your job search according to your specific skill strengths.

So before you set out to write a cover letter and resume on your own, you might try one or more of these aforementioned options to ensure you have the best resume possible when entering the job search process.
